With long views of October Mountain and surrounded by conserved meadows – this property had all the inspiration from the best of the Berkshire landscape to pull from. Desiring a lower maintenance and semi-native lawn and landscape, this homeowner has been undergoing a systematic transformation to create her most ideal outdoor living space. Utilizing primarily native species and carefully placed goshen flagging to make the more wild landscape lovely and easy to connect with. Last season we installed an informal goshen stone stairway to traverse and descend into lush, meadow style beds flanking the path for the walk to the patio. The two patio areas, in scale with the large sweeps of the surrounding view, are constructed of several very large stones, to be interplanted with alpine plants meant to grow throughout the larger sized joints. The meadow style beds will blend into the surrounding yard space, to shorter and more turf-like areas to facilitate traditional usage, such as recreation and dog run space. The taller plantings on the slope are planned to work in a way to create a visual synchronicity with the views of the tall swaying grasses in the natural meadow surrounding the home. We’re excited to finish planting and let this homeowner, the surrounding pollinators and local ecology all enjoy and benefit from the new additions
