There is an extraordinary endeavor underway. Women from all over the world are joining forces to help save our planet. These women are part of an effort that is gaining significant momentum.
“TreeSisters” is a grassroots movement that began forming in 2009. It started with one woman and her vision. Today it is a growing network of women who donate monthly to fund the acceleration of tropical reforestation as an expression of collective planetary care. Last year TreeSisters planted 1,000 trees/month. By the end of this year they hope (and anticipate) to reach their goal of one million.
Their mission: “TreeSisters exists to elicit collective responsibility for planetary restoration at the grassroots level with a focus on women and tropical reforestation.”
Climate change is affecting life on this planet everywhere. Forests play a vital role in the hydrological cycles of our world, sequester the atmospheric carbon dioxide that is driving climate change and provide the most biodiverse regions on earth. When trees are removed, vibrant ecosystems are often over-farmed, eroded and rendered infertile in a cascade effect that is mirrored with social decline, grinding poverty, and climate extremes. Reforestation can rapidly reverse these trends, stabilizing and nourishing the soils, restoring watersheds, revitalizing dry springs and providing good quality water to large populations living downstream.
TreeSister’s foundation is built on women connecting with each other and reconnecting with nature to cultivate a balance of feminine energy that is needed for a shift in our collective consciousness. Women are being called upon to unite and utilize their innate strengths and gifts to empower themselves and each other. This inner work fuels the development of international networks. With every network that is established, more trees are planted and more progress is made. These groups or “groves” are being created every day.
Presently, a small group of Berkshire TreeSisters are in the process of establishing a local network. There is a special event on October 1st at the Mount in Lenox in which these women will introduce the TreeSisters mission to our community and allow those interested an opportunity to learn how they can help support this wonderful organization. I am excited to share that I wil be participating in the “Grove Dance” that will take place during the event.
Please visit the TreeSisters website to learn more about this amazing organization and please spread the word and consider joining us!
